Development of wind power is a trend of countries in the world, especially developed countries like Vietnam in order to reduce the impacts from fossil power sources, meeting the power demand for socio-economic sustainable development, in accordance with international commitments on environmental protection.

Vietnam has the greatest wind potential from Ninh Thuan to the southern region. The Government also set ambitious targets to increase wind power capacity to 2020 of 800 MW, about 2,000 MW in 2025 and about 6,000 MW in 2030. Electricity from wind power will account for 0.8% of the total in 2020, about 1% in 2025 and about 2.1% in 2030.

Regarding the pricing mechanism, for inland wind power projects, the purchase price of electricity at the delivery point is VND 1,928/kWh (equivalent to 8.5 Uscents/kWh); wind power project at sea is VND 2,223/kWh (equivalent to 9.8 Uscents/kWh) excluding value-added tax is quite attractive.

According to recent statistics of Vietnam Electricity Group, it shows that by the end of May 31, 2019, 7 wind power plants have been put into operation with a total installed capacity of 331 MW and the Wind power plant generated in May was 14.5 million kWh.
